Preliminary Bike Map

This is version 0.001. I still have annotation to do and I would like to do some insets with luxury of space on the larger format. Maybe bicycle safety or something. I was hoping to find some geospatial related safety data, but was only able to locate fatality charts based by county. Would be nice to rate roads on more than just traffic density, but actual safety.

Working with Labels and Annotation...

Tonight we worked on annotations and labels. I found it very difficult to put all this information on an 8.5" X 11" canvas, but I learned an lot about the difference between graphic labels, dynamic labels, and annotation.

NCCCS Communicating with Maps....

More and more the North Carolina Community College System is communicating with maps. The map above shows all the counties that will have a BPI Building Analyst 1 certified weatherization instructor by the end of October 2009. There has been a lot of funding dedicated to weatherizing homes of lower income individuals from the Federal Recovery Act Funds. Community Colleges will be providing a lot of this training to contractors who will be working for local Community Action Agencies. In Haywood County alone, over $500,000 was provided to people in need to heat their homes last winter. Weatherization will greatly eliminate this need.

I was thinking how so much more information could be included in this map .... like number of homes to be weatherized in each county, fuel assistance costs during winter of 2008-2009 etc.

Newbridge Landslide Hazard Draft 2

After printing I made some adjustments (hopefully improvements) to the overall layout. I changed the bottom panel order, highlighted the landslide area on the county map, and added an NC county boundaries layer to make the data frames more cohesive.

Newbridge Landslide Hazard

First crack at a mapping project since June. Constructive criticism is welcome.

Project Description: The NC Geological Survey has been investigating a landslide in the northern part of Buncombe County, just above Asheville, NC. They have found the landslide area to be unstable and a threat to public health. They are working with you, the Buncombe County Public Health GIS Specialist to analyze the threat to county residents near the slide. You will determine all people living within 1/4 mile of the landslide location, locate the closest fires station, fire district and other relevant information.

Emergency Response Exercise in Google Earth...

Not a perfect fit, but ArcMap 9.3 has the Layer to KML tool! I did not know that...
